Writers of Christian Fiction, specially Christian Science Fiction, or Christian Sci-fi, made their presence known long ago. We have been fortunate, as a society, to have seen the works of a lot of of the best writers in the Christian arena. Several of the very best, and indeed, the brightest and most imaginative have long ago passed off the scene. John Bunyan was one such writer. Bunyan penned the now classic work entitled The Pilgrim’s Progress, a work he did while imprisoned. Perhaps the most gifted and gifted of all the writers of Christian fiction was C.S. Lewis, who wrote the Narnia tales and other great Christian fiction. Works by Lewis have been indelibly imprinted upon the psyche of Christianity evermore. Lewis composed what a heap of would call Fantasy, and in all likelihood it was, but any story he penned was a outstanding deal more than that. It was allegorical to the point of enveloping a person into biblical principles that were inescapable. Lewis’ Christian Science Fiction tales were capsules of good vs. evil on a level that any person could experience and enjoy. Of course, there are a great deal of persons who have downplayed Christian Fiction, and in particular any fiction that is Christian Science Fiction, or Fantasy, state emphatically and authoritatively it is of not much use. (Some would even say “of the devil.”) Many argue that fiction is a questionable means to present the truths of the Scriptures, arguing that if somebody decides to explain those facts, it would be more practical to formulate a simple essay or dissertation containing those truths. However, in this lies the very issue. Who will look at those works? Thousands upon thousands readers will just ignore such erudite tomes. However, they would be much more likely to peruse a narrative of wonder fixed on far-off worlds of make-believe. The unvarnished truth of the matter is that Christian Fiction presents a well conventional history of documenting biblical truths snuggled into worlds of fantasy. Those kinds of realities, together with the biblical truths presented, are now digested by tens of millions of persons, and these people have been made the better for these stories. Christian Science Fiction is a genre that has been all but abandoned by Christian writers and publishers. That is unfortunate. This market has been fundamentally set detached for Fantasy and Futuristic fiction. A good deal of the reason has been given that it appeared actually hard, if not impossible, to squeeze biblical reality into a tomorrow that is rather mysterious and unknown. Writers are almost always hesitant of migrating too far from the revealed biblical future. Writing when it comes to alien creatures who are distinctly not humane beings and whose roots are hazy may be pretty disturbing to a novelist who has no desire to have to tell of events that are distinctly not possible in a biblical future. Composing in a Christian Fiction environment, in particular a Christian Science Fiction setting, may be difficult because one needs a very good comprehend of the Bible. If a Christian writer is going to put forth a narrative that, while delightful and evidently fictional, nonetheless delivers a story that may work when it comes to biblical constraints, then one surely needs to have a better than working familiarity with the Bible. He or she needs to have read that book, cover to cover. Otherwise, the writer will not grasp when he or she crosses a great deal of other than as supposed or expected invisible line drawn in the sands of time by the Bible. For example, if a Christian Fiction writer hoped to tell a story in regards to an world where wrong-doing doesn’t exist, that writer could effortlessly set his or her saga into the span of the thousand-year rule of Christ, the Millennium. That event is spoken of in the Bible. One may range far in his or her imagination when telling a story that takes place in that time, or even a tale that takes place after the Millennium. However, if that novelist starts telling of wicked effects by satanic powers on those living in the Millennium, the author will have made a severe error that will, in the long run, cost the writer numerous readers. They ought to have known that Satan, in this time, proceeds to be bound, and will be imprisoned, for the whole thousand years. After the amount of time of the Millennium is ended, the writer is free to explode a new universe of possibilities. If a writer desired to spun a novel dealing with spaceships and aliens, that is lawful fare, and there’s not one thing in the Bible to deny this kind of speculation (contrary to the sentiment of many). A quick read of the book of Obadiah provides a springboard to the imagination of a writer of Christian Science Fiction. It is written there that: “Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and even though thou set thy nest amidst the stars, therefore will I fetch thee down, saith the LORD.” Book of Obadiah, 1:4 (The Bible). Clearly, the verse speaks of persons living in a far distant planet, “among the stars.” That strongly proposes space travel. A good writer of Christian Sci-fi may take those kinds of suggestions and fabricate entire worlds. Once again, though, if the author provides a scenario where Earth is totally destroyed by aliens, then that writer has run up versus the strong wall of biblical fact. That is not a future depicted or even suggested by Scripture. The Bible delivers galore exceedingly apocalyptic scenarios for the future of Earth and the humane race, even moving so far as to represent sure things that tend to be seen as unquestionably alien, and even spacecraft. One need only read in the book of Ezekiel, chapter ten, to get such an image. However, there is no suggestion in Scripture that the entire world or humane beings will be murdered by alien beings. There is strong suggestion that aliens, or something akin to aliens, shall rain down murderous pain upon the world and humane beings. In the 9th chapter of the Book of Revelation, for instance, it is stated that galore alien-like beings will come upon the world and torment humans for five months. The description of these creatures is “like unto horses prepared unto battle…and their faces were as the faces of men.” A Christian Science Fiction writer could distinctly run with those visuals. A Christian sci-fi story could without apparent effort be woven into a tremendous storyline from any number of suggestions and hints given in the Bible, that would enthrall innumerable readers. Many folks would read a Christian Science Fiction novel, or a Christian Fantasy book who would never open the Bible and read the truths embedded therein. And that means more humans who take in interest in biblical things, and in the Bible itself. Thus, Christian Fiction serves us well. |
