Have you ever had one of those mornings where you groggily get out of bed, make your way to the bathroom and of a sudden stub your toe versus the bed post? Sir Isaac Newton would surely understand. In this case, a solid object in motion (toe) %2B immoveable object (bedpost) = #$*&?!! However, strange as it may sound, at the quantum level of things, Newton’s laws plainly break down and the idea that the physical world is solid is revealed to be impossible. The bedpost, your toe, the entire bedroom, the entire You for that matter, actually have no solidity. How may this be, when the intense toe pain surely says otherwise?

Remember what you learned in high school when it comes to atoms? We are taught the ancient Greek Democritus in 530 B.C. was the initial to assert matter was composed of tiny atoms which he named “atoms”. We, and everything around us, consist of atoms. The in a positive manner charged central region of an atom (the nucleus) is surrounded by negatively charged electrons. The forces amid the two are so powerful that not one thing may cause the electrons to unite with the nucleus, there is always “space” amid them.

In the award winning DVD What the Bleep Do We Know? Down the Rabbit Hole, anesthesiologist, professor and researcher Stuart Hameroff M.D. explains that not only are atoms “mostly empty” but “they never genuinely meet”. The bedpost atoms and the atoms of the toe may never actually touch each other. At the atomic level, there is always space amid them because when two molecules are forced together (the toe hitting the bedpost), a very thin electromagnetic repulsion layer keeps negatively charged electrons of the molecules from in truth making any contact.

So what the heck causes that horrid pain in the toe? The sensation comes from a neural stimulus from the toe that registers in the brain as pain, and that stimulus is a result of the electromagnetic strength amidst the electrons of the toe and post. Our senses are basically playing tricks on us as the sudden electromagnetic strength (the impact) produces a neural response by the brain and registers as very unpleasing “contact”. We are therefore experiencing an illusion here, albeit, a very convincing one.

The reputation Morpheus asks Neo, in The Matrix movie; “What is ‘real’? How do you define ‘real’? If you mean what we may taste, smell, listen and feel then what’s ‘real’ is not one thing more than electrical signals interpreted by your brain.” The movie may be fantasy, the statement nonetheless is based on mainstream science. Sometimes however, fact may be stranger than fiction.

There is the mutual faith that we ‘see’ with our eyes. “Seeing, is believing.” Correct? Well, technically, that’s not wholly accurate. As lecturer, author and researcher, David Icke, succinctly illustrates in his book Tales from the Time Loop; the eyes are fundamentally the lenses that receive neural data which is then directed to the crucial visual cortex of the brain located at the back of our heads. It is there that we ‘see’ the world around us, therefore we in truth ‘see’ with the back of our brains and not our eyes. If you think that sounds odd, wait, it gets better. Something mysterious also happens for the duration of the procedure of sight; the temporal lobe of our brain reconstructs and edits more than 50% of the data it receives. Therefore, we only ‘see’ what the brain is conditioned to ‘see’. This means there is 50% or more of ‘something’ there, that we never ‘see’.

In his book, The Holographic Universe, the late Michael Talbot mentions: “…Some studies suggest that less than 50 per cent of what we ‘see’ is actually based on data entering our eyes. The remaining 50 per cent plus is pieced together out of our expected values of what the world ought to look like (and perchance other origins such as reality fields)…”

In his book; Infinite Love is the Only Truth, Everything Else is Illusion David Icke explains the strange way our world is perceived: “Our eyes only transform light into electrical signals that are constantly delivered to the brain for interpretation. This ‘visible light’ is confined to a tiny fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum, which is, itself, only 0.005 per cent of the matter/energy of the known universe…” Mr. Icke goes on to explain how in that miniscule frequency range, we decode light into our physical reality. He adds; “There is no world ‘around’ us as we understand it; everything is all happening in our brains…”

Harvard graduate and best-selling author Gary Zukav states in his book, The Dancing Wu Li Masters; “…the fact is that quantum field theory…is premised on the assumption that physical reality is basically nonsubstantial. According to quantum field theory, fields alone are real. They are the substance of the universe, not “matter.” Matter (particles) is merely the momentary manifestations of interacting fields which, intangible and insubstantial as they are, are the only real things in the universe.”

As mentioned, the building blocks of everything ‘around’ us and all our physical organs that concede us to understand it by way of the senses, are of course, atoms. Atoms consist of atoms called protons, electrons and neutrons, and each of them are also considered “mostly empty”. The protons and neutrons group together in the central portion of the atom, (the nucleus) and the electrons ‘orbit’ the nucleus. In his book, A Short History of Nearly Everything, Bill Bryson quotes Professor of Chemistry, William H. Cropper; “As Cropper has put it, if an atom were expanded to the size of a cathedral, the nucleus would be only when it comes to the size of a fly….” The ‘space’ is considered ‘empty’ to our sensing but is actually composed of vibrating energy on a wavelength higher than the ‘physical’. So how could atoms constitute our ‘solid’ world if they are empty with no solidity? That is the billion dollar question. Mr. Icke’s reply; “They can’t, ‘solidity’ is an illusion.” (Infinite love is the Only Truth, Everything Else is Illusion)

This sentiment is found in Judaic thought. In the Kabbalistic tradition, all of creation is; “An illusory projection of the transcendental distinct elements of God.” Michael Talbot notes in his book, The Holographic Universe; “The idea that the creation set into motion by the God of Genesis is an illusion is reflected even in the Hebrew language…the Zohar…the most famous of the esoteric Jewish texts, notes, the verb baro “to create,” implies the idea of creating an illusion.”

There is agreement from the Hindus as well. The material universe is maya, according to them, which means transitory and unreal. Their Svetasvatara Upanishad states, “One will have to recognise that Nature is illusion…”

I had a dream in which I was walking through a kind of museum/mall in the future. One of the popular attractions there was the Life Tour. For a sure price, one could sit in a special recliner and experience an entire lifetime as another person in in regards to five minutes. A frail thin woman could experience living as a big hairy man and vice versa. One could even choose any time in history to be ‘born’ and at last die. Death, of course, was plainly the awakening from the ‘tour’.

In Tibetan Dzogchen Buddhism, sensed reality is considered to be unreal. According to Dzogchen teacher Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, the “dream of life” and our regular dreams for the duration of the night, in their necessary nature, have no divergence among them. All sensed appearances of the life of an individual, including tastes, smells, sounds, and touch sensations, are as a “big dream“.

What is this info revealing to us? What does it say, not only of the world ‘around’ us, but of ourselves as well? Do we physically exist, or are we rigorously consciousness, dreaming our world exists? To be or not to be, do we or not do we? That is the question indeed.
